- 4 Quarts Water
- 1 Cup Diced Baby Carrots
- 1 Cup Diced Celery
- 1 Cup Yellow Onion
- ¼ tsp Coarse Black Pepper
- 2 tsp Natures Seasons Seasoning Blend
- ¼ tsp Onion Powder
- ¼ tsp Celery Salt
- 2 Fresh Sage Leaves
STEPS 1-4 How To Make Homemade Shredded Chicken
STEPS 1: Gather and prep all of your ingredients.
STEP 2: Place the chicken with skin on in an 8-quart cooking pot heated to medium-high heat.
STEP 3: Add the chopped onion to the pot.
STEP 4: Add water, celery, carrots, and Sage. Boil for 30 minutes.
STEPS 5-8 How To Make Homemade Shredded Chicken
STEP 5: Lower the heat to medium/low for an additional 30 minutes.
STEP 6: Remove the cooking pot from heat and remove the chicken from the broth.
STEP 7: Place chicken pieces on a kitchen plate to debone and de-skin.
STEP 8: Using a strainer, remove the vegetables from the broth, and set aside.
STEPS 9-12 How To Make Homemade Shredded Chicken
STEP 9: Measure 1 cup of the cooked vegetables. Set aside.
STEP 10: Place the chicken in a large bowl and shred the chicken using two forks in a raking motion.
STEP 11: Add all of your seasonings.
STEP 12: Add the measured vegetables to the chicken, and mix well. Salt to your desired taste. Enjoy!
I recommend saving the broth for future meals that call for chicken broth. Properly store it in a freezer-safe container, or baggie, and freeze up to 6 months.
HOW DO I HEAT THE HOMEMADE SHREDDED CHICKEN?
MICROWAVE: If heating the shredded chicken straight from the refrigerator, place shredded chicken on a microwave-safe plate, or in a container. Place a wet/damp paper towel over the shredded chicken, and microwave for 1 minute.
CAN I FREEZE THE HOMEMADE SHREDDED CHICKEN?
Absolutely yes, you can freeze the shredded chicken. Properly package in a freezer-safe container, or baggie, you may freeze it up to 6 months.
To thaw, place the frozen container or baggie in the refrigerator to thaw overnight. It will be good to eat up to 4 days.
Freeze the leftover broth for future recipes that call for chicken broth.
The broth can be frozen up to 6 months.
